“Every chapter of my life has led me here to the kind of care I always believed medicine could be.”

Dr. Farzana Badrun

My Story

A physician who knows
what it means to be a patient.

Hi, I am Dr. Badrun — and I have been exactly where you are. Through different phases of life, I have watched my loved ones navigate the complex healthcare system, and unlike many of you, I faced a cancer diagnosis of my own in 2016 — and came through it as a survivor.

My path to medicine began at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, one of Pakistan’s most competitive and highly regarded institutions, where I built the foundation that would shape my career. I went on to undertake clinical training in Internal Medicine at the University of South Carolina, then deepened my expertise with a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, graduating summa cum laude — blending my knowledge of patient care with a formal, population-level lens on health and disease. That foundation carried me to work at the intersection of medicine, investigative research, and public health at renowned institutions including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Emory University. Together, this path gave me something few physicians have: a front-line understanding of individual patient care paired with a broader, community-wide view of what keeps people healthy.

Additionally, I have served as Medical Director at a long-term care rehabilitation facility, where I oversaw complex, high-acuity patient care and led clinical decision-making for some of the most medically fragile patients in the system.

Most importantly, my own experience as a cancer survivor added a deeply personal third dimension to my medical and public health background. I now know what it is like to fight cancer; also to face a wave of medical bills — the same balances resurfacing again and again, for charges I thought I had already paid, chased by endless reminders — at the very moment when I needed rest and healing instead of added stress.
Today, I am grateful to be in remission — and I carry that experience with me every day, along with a firsthand understanding of a healthcare system that too often leaves patients feeling more like a medical bill than a person. That is exactly why I built New Essence Health: a practice where you get real time with your doctor, care that is evidence-based and genuinely compassionate, and pricing you can understand upfront — no surprises, no endless follow-up bills, no rush. Just the kind of care I once needed myself, now available to you.
